MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe every student deserves a classroom where they feel safe, valued, and genuinely excited to show up. My role isn't only to teach reading and math. It's to help students believe in themselves, stay curious about the world, and fall in love with learning in a way that sticks.
One of my favorite parts of teaching is getting to know my students and their families. My experience as a substitute teacher has shown me that students learn best when they know their teacher genuinely cares about them, and that trust changes how willing they are to engage. I try to build classrooms grounded in kindness, respect, and high expectations.
Having grown up in the Tustin School District myself, I still remember which of my own teachers made me feel that way, and how much of a difference it made in my willingness to try, to ask questions, and to see myself as capable.
When students feel seen, they take more risks, ask more questions, and invest themselves more fully in their own learning. I also believe strong partnerships with families are essential. The best outcomes happen when home and school are working toward the same goals, so I make a point of staying in close communication with parents and caregivers, whether that means a quick note home or a longer conversation about how a student is doing.
Every student brings something different into the classroom, their own strengths, background, and way of learning. My responsibility is to notice those differences and teach in a way that reaches each student rather than the average one. I want to challenge students academically while also supporting who they're becoming as people, helping them grow into resilient, thoughtful problem-solvers. I try to build lessons that students actually want to be part of, hands-on where possible, rooted in discussion, and connected to the world outside the classroom.
My goal is for students to leave each year not only more capable academically, but more confident and more curious than when they arrived.
I see teaching as both a privilege and a responsibility, and I don't take either lightly. I'm eager to bring my energy, dedication, and genuine care for students into an elementary classroom, where every child has the chance to discover what they're capable of and empowered to succeed.
